Trudy and I shared a cup of coffee and the quilting studio with Nancy Edwards today. After a practice piece, Nancy loaded the frame with this bold and beautiful whole cloth to make a coverlet for a twin-sized bed. The real story, though, is the child for whom she made it. Her name is Dacena (pronounced DAH-she-na), and she is a two-year-old earthquake orphan currently living in Haiti. She will soon be part of a local family because of the people at First Baptist Church of Maypearl and an orphanage named “No Place Like Home.” Nancy and others from the church have travelled several times to Haiti where, among other things, they teach the women to sew — a job skill.
